Architecture
Architecture is the art of designing buildings, monuments, bridges and other structures. Aesthetics are an important consideration in architectural design, unlike engineering design, where the emphasis is on making a functional structure, which is both economical and practical based on scientific principles.
For the design of a building the architect will work in conjunction with the civil engineer at the initial stage, since the civil engineer will implement the design. The services of the architect will also needed after the basic construction of the structure is complete and the interior decor finalised. The architect will consider the lighting, space available, user requirements to finalise the design of the room. However, some times, only aesthetics are considered while making structural changes, and this often leads to building collapses.
In addition to working on single buildings, inputs from architects are important while deciding on the layout of townships, towns, public spaces like gardens, playgrounds and cities. Most ancient civilizations are identified by the distinct architecture of the structures which exist today - like the pyramids of Egypt , the Taj Mahal.
